You can help reduce the truancy rate
Dale Norton, Superintendent of Nye County School District announces an anonymous TRUANCY HOT LINE to call if you are concerned about a child not attending school. (775) 751-4001.
Mr. Norton adds that national statistics show high rates of truancy are linked to daytime burglary rates, vandalism and other crimes, keeping in mind that 75% of the criminals currently in the United States Prison system were habitual truants. When children are truant they normally take themselves away from the supervised learning environment that school provides and place themselves out into the community where, occasionally, they commit a crime against the community or have a crime committed against them. In order to combat truancy it is important that parents, schools, community, local businesses, social services, and other community groups join together. Nye County School District and Juvenile Probation have jointly established this TRUANCY HOT LINE (775) 751-4001 to:
Help keep children in our community safe and educated
Reduce the truancy rate
Raise the awareness of the importance of school attendance
Reduce the number of crimes committed by young people during school hours
The Nye County School District and Juvenile Probation Department thank you for your help and assistance on behalf of the children of our community.
